Google Maps gets updated UI for Android Auto on smartphone
Starting with Google Maps version 10.45, a slightly modified interface should appear while using the device with the standalone Android Auto app. The app is having a completely different feel with updated keys and more floaty menus and indicators.
As mentioned by Android Police, the navigation instructions and indicators now have rounded corners and take up less room, so that you can still see some of the chart in the back. At the same time, the upgrade increases the navigation across the landscape. Directions will not eat all the screen space and do no longer occupy the whole device as the options menu comes up.
The independent Android Auto feature was supposed to be phased out in favour of in-car service. On the Play Store, however, the device stayed around so anybody can access it to encounter Android Auto without a compatible head unit in the vehicle.
